Abdominal cramps and contractions occur for a wide variety of reasons, and they can be as simple as flatulence or more serious as appendicitis or Crohn's disease. Abdominal pain can be described as pain extending from the chest area to the pelvis, and in some cases the feeling of pain and cramps can be limited to a specific part of the abdomen, and in this case it often occurs as a result of problems in a specific organ, such as the stomach, for example. The pain caused by abdominal cramps may be dull, sharp, intermittent, or recurrent, and may be associated with other symptoms, such as diarrhea, constipation, or bloating.
